Age: Tom Jackman is about 41 years old, physically and mentally. Hyde appears in his thirties, but mentally, he's only a few years old.
History: Wiki page here.
Tom Jackman had thought everything would be all right. Hyde had vanished, he had gotten his life back, his family...it was all all right. He could pick up the pieces. He could have his life back, in full. His wife, his children...they were happy at last, back to where they were before all this mess had begun.
He should have seen the signs, really. Should have noticed it when little Edward would wink at someone over his shoulder, giggling at apparently thin air. Should have noticed the way the hairs stood on the back of his neck from time to time...shouldn't have brushed off the way the lights flickered now and again as mere power surges.
Tom should have seen the warning signs, but he didn't.
After he went to see his mother - after he learned the truth about her - he left feeling rattled. Seeing her state only ascertained the truth of matters...he had looked right into the face of his future. It scared him.
It was only days later that it happened...he had been working, typing, minding his own business. He felt the twitch inside him, but he ignored it...only a memory now. It couldn't be anything more than that. He tried to continue typing, but the computer had restarted itself...the lights had flickered, the boys were shouting upstairs about something. Before he knew it, he was waking up with his face on the desk...his office was in shambles, and the only thing on his computer screen were four words:
'Did you miss me?'
Realizing that he was in danger again of being found, in danger of his family being put through that nightmare again, he told his wife and children that he had to go away on business (his wife didn't believe him, of course...but there was little she could do), but promised that he would be back in a few days' time. Just enough for him to sort this out again - to make sure that Hyde was willing to play nice.
Just...a little time away would be all he needed.
Presentation: Tom is easily described as a boring man. Everything about his demeanor screams average. He's tall, but not TOO tall...chubby, but not TOO chubby. He's the sort of guy who you would expect to see in line at the supermarket, not battling to the death in colorful arenas. Nothing about him stands out, and honestly? He kind of likes it that way. Perhaps against his will, he does have a few quirks - dry sense of humor, odd habits that aren't particularly interesting (like taking his shoes off when he eats). A quiet man of science. He doesn't go to much effort to look more than presentable, preferring to blend into the background.
That sentiment carries through into how he interacts with people, too. He prefers to be pleasant and quiet, as unobtrusive as possible in hopes that everything will just go along smoothly. He's got more than enough drama in his life - and in an environment where hundreds of people are going to know about Hyde, he will probably be as reticent as possible. He's not an unfriendly man by any stretch, but he is a bit shy...and he does come across as rather worried all the time. Expect a lot of self-depreciating humor, mumbling, and shoe-gazing where Tom is concerned.
Hyde, on the other hand, presents himself with all the confidence he could possibly have. He appears a few years younger than Tom and carries himself with a lot more vitality. He stands at a couple inches taller and a few pounds lighter - considerably more lithe and spry than the more "dadly" Tom. He likes to dress sharp, all button-down shirts and blazers with angular lines that make him look powerful. His hair is jet black, his hairline more defined...he looks very similar to Tom, but with key differences in just the right spots, right now to his deep black eyes.
He has none of the social hang-ups that Tom has. Where Tom is introverted, Hyde is an extreme extrovert, loving to be the center of attention. He will make it clear if he likes you, even if he merely thinks you're an entertaining plaything - and playful he is. He likes to party, can put away much too much alcohol and food (at Tom's expense), and will generally go way out of his way to be in everyone's face. Obnoxious? Sometimes. But if you actually go along with him, he can actually be kind of fun.
Motivations:
Tom is simple, if terrified. He loves his family, above all else, and has gone through Hell and back again trying to keep them safe. He's more well-adjusted than he used to be, perhaps, but having Hyde away for a little while and then back again - AND THEN BEING PULLED INTO ANOTHER WORLD TO PARTICIPATE IN DEATHMATCHES - is going to leave him more than a little bit defensive. Fear is probably Tom's chief motivator at this point in his life; fear of what Hyde might do, fear of what he may have to do, fear of what could happen to his family. He's a quiet man, but he will put that brain of his to work on anything if he thinks it means getting back to his wife and twins.
While he does try to keep his distance, Tom is much quicker to care than Hyde is. He is a father with very strong paternal instincts, and those do tend to direct his actions if he feels like someone else really needs his help. While he might be anxious about spending too much time with any one person (for fear of Hyde), he is actually quite easy to get along with. He IS married and devoted to his wife and kids - so romance isn't much on the table for him, despite Hyde's best efforts.
Hyde is actually - despite the dichotomy in personality - even more simple than Tom. He's learned a lot since his first run around the world, but at the most basic level, he's still a young soul with all the drives of a full grown man. If he's hungry, he eats. If he feels like partying, he's gonna party. He's been away for a little while, and now that he's getting his legs back under him, he just does NOT want to stop running! Impulse, to him, may as well BE reason - consequences be damned, even if it means having a very loud temper-tantrum. It isn't necessarily that he doesn't care, because...he does. Here and there. Deep down. But that's very deep down, and you really have to pick at him to find out just how big his heart really is under all that childish bravado.
If you manage to get him to like you, you could almost never find a more loyal and fierce friend. As a protector, Hyde is a valuable guard dog, enthusiastic about helping someone when he happens to feel like it at the time. He's not as self-centered as he used to be, just enough that he's willing to maybe admit (to himself only) that he likes people sometimes. If you try really really hard at it, maybe you could even have a relationship with him...but that's a big maybe, and only if you can put up with him for long enough.
Setting:
Tom will be absolutely terrified by the arenas. He's a middle aged man, for Christ's sake, he's not a fighter NOR is he even fun to watch on TV! Even the social aspects of the Capitol will be weird and uncomfortable to him. He likes to keep to himself, not be trotted out in bizarre outfits for the world to judge. And having his condition on display? Horrific. Likely he will fall in with the scientist crowd, though.
Hyde, on the other hand, is going to see everything as a giant playground. Being thrown into a deathmatch situation and told it's survival of the fittest? More than happily he will declare himself at the top of the food chain. Capitol parties? Awesome! More free booze for him! The only thing he won't care much for is the concept of being FORCED to do anything - but that's something the capitol can easily keep under control just by telling him how great he is at violence. His thoughts on killing? "It's like sex, only there's a winner."

First Person Thread:
[A camera. It's been a little while since he had a camera on him like this, hasn't it? Jet-black eyes peer straight into the lens, a slow, gleeful smile curling onto his angular face. He takes a deep, slow breath, he tilts his head a little bit, he holds up both hands in an emphatic shrug.]
Whoopsie.
[He had died. He had died horribly. Drowned, bleeding out in a deep pool of water, watching his life drain away above him as something pulled him down below. He could remember it with perfect clarity, recall the way his lungs had felt when they filled with water until they burst.
He doesn't look like he remembers, though. He doesn't look like he cares.]
Well, I didn't see THAT comin'! Good for you guys, pulling one over on me. If it were Daddy - oh, if it were Daddy, I wouldn't have been impressed. But you killed me. Great job! Gold stars all around.
[Casually, he reaches up to pop the collar of his jacket, plainly mugging for the audience at home. His grin is broad and sharp, nose wrinkling up a little to pull his lip back and give the appearance of a near-snarl.]
Not gonna happen again, though. I'm not as easy to scare off as Daddy is. Where he would be hiding with his tail between his legs right now, I'm already ready for more playtime.
So next time...you'd be much better off going after HIM.
Prose:
Tom looks like a deer in the headlights, one hand scratching backward through a thinning head of messy, curly hair.
Oh god. This couldn't possibly go well, could it? He has no idea what to do, what to say - eyes darting around the room and looking at the weapons and targets like they may attack him at any moment at all. Right at this moment, he's feeling all-too self-conscious, the arm up scratching his head moving downward to wrap around his soft gut.
"You've got the wrong man for this," he finally settles on, turning his attention towards the Gamemakers. He realizes that he looks pitiful - he FEELS pitiful - but he is completely at a loss. "I don't know what you expect me to do for you. I know that I have to impress you, but I don't know how to do that. I expect I won't get to leave until I do...something...."
A moment of motivation for his own sake finally gets him to move, hurrying over to what looks like some kind of impressive battle axe. Hesitating a beat, he reaches down to it, adjusting his grip in a way he expects is how it's done...and then lifts it with some effort, awkwardly swinging it out in front of him.
It slips from his grip, clattering and sliding across the floor.
He stands there, staring at it for a moment, hands still up in front of him in the position of his grip. He makes an odd little gasping sound - either a desperate laugh or the beginnings of a sob - before looking back up to his audience.
"You've really got the wrong man for this."
Something in him jolts and shudders. The familiar tingling up his spine is - for once - welcome. He relaxes by a fraction, dropping his hands to his sides.
"But - just - give me a minute, and I'll get you the right one."
His eyes shut.
What is your character scored:
Tom and Hyde would, by rights, have scores on near opposite ends of the spectrum. I'm going to give their scores each - their finalized score can be averaged as necessary if having two scores is impossible (which I suspect).
Tom I would put at 4.
He's not an impressive guy. He's kind of boring to begin with, on top of being a middle-aged man with just about no athletic prowess. He IS, however, quite smart - he did a lot of science and research involving genetics/diseases, and he also worked out a detailed scheduling and security system to keep his other half at bay. He's severely claustrophobic, which can be a detractor.
For extraordinary abilities, Tom really only has two worth mentioning.
**Inclusion of memory - THIS WILL ACTUALLY NOT BE PRESENT AT THE START, but will be regained over time. Hyde will eventually be able to pay attention at will while Tom is awake - even fish things out of his memory to show him - and vice-versa.
**Transformation - Tom can - of course - turn into Hyde. This is, unless under EXTREME duress, quite involuntary. His body shifts, and during this time, there may be a light electrical interference in the area. Lights have been known to flicker, but it otherwise doesn't do much - a strong circuit may not even flicker at all.
Hyde would be closer to a 9.
When Hyde is present, he possesses abilities (NOT superpowers or magic) that Tom does not have. His brain basically overclocks his body, giving him:
*Enhanced strength - enough to throw a large full-grown man out a window with ease, but not enough to break through metal shackles.
*Enhanced speed - he's no Flash, but he is faster than the average man.
*Enhanced endurance/resistance - Hyde can take more hits than the norm before going down (due to his high adrenaline) and takes much longer to tire out than most people. He's not IMPERVIOUS to damage, but it takes longer to catch up with him.
*Acute senses - Sense of smell, taste, and sight are all on-par with a hunting animal.
All of these things, coupled with his very bouncy personality, make him both dangerous and fun to watch in an arena.
Powers that he also has at his strongest but which will be nerfed by the Capitol are:
*Electricity absorption - at his most powerful point, Hyde could absorb electricity to even further overclock his physical abilities.
*Separation of physical damage - there was a point where if Hyde was shot, Tom wouldn't feel it. That luxury is all gone now.
